Maintenance on aircraft may only be carried out and released by authorized persons. To demonstrate this, the aircraft maintenance technician (AMT) needs a licence: Part-66 AML (Aircraft Maintenance Licence). An aircraft maintenance technician must comply with the European standard prescribed by EASA and established in the EASA Part 66 AML regulations 1321/2014. When the qualifications are met, a licence can be requested. A Part 66 AML consists of a basic category/sub-category and additional type ratings.
Note: Read more about the longer lead time for the handling of applications.
The latest update about accepting foreign applications for initial issues of a Part-66 AML Licence can be found on the foreign initial issue webpage.
Please note: as of 12 June 2024, the procedure for applying for the endorsement of a first aircraft type rating under a certain category to the AML has changed. Completing the required on-the-job training (OJT) in a Part-145 or Part-CAO approved maintenance organisation is only allowed after having a direct approval from ILT. Kiwa can’t endorse type ratings without this approval from ILT. The procedure for applying for direct approval can be found on the website of ILT.
